I woke up this morning and turned on the news like I do every morning and of course the news is dominated by Covid -19 and the pandemic. For the most part we talk about how the current pandemic has disrupted and put our lives on hold. Yes! Covid -19 has changed the way we think and the way we conduct our day to day living. One thing Covid -19 has not done is stop us from achieving our goals and if you think it has, you are WRONG! Pandemics come, pandemics go, however our desire to achieve success is a constant and a must continue on. And one way to achieve your desire for success is through your goals. Don’t let the world’s outside influences stop you from achieving greatness.
Through the constant zigging and zagging, the ups and downs and the spinning round and round, it has given us the opportunity to really challenge ourselves on many levels over the last 13 months. Every day we wake up and find something new and nothing has changed.
At the height of the pandemic when we all thought this is not going to end, I decided to keep moving forward, the outside world was changing, however my goals still remained the same. I had intended to relocate overseas in March of 2020 and with the Covid-19 cases growing daily exponentially, the moving overseas became not viable. My goal was still to move and relocate from where I was living and with the borders closing, this became a challenge but not impossible. With borders coming up and down like a yoyo, I was not going to be distracted and I had a firm belief “where there is a will there is a way.” In August 2020, the domestic borders opened, and I booked flights and accommodation and three days after I made travel arrangements the borders shut again. I stayed positive and planed for the borders to reopen. December rolled around and the borders reopened and within days of the announcement, I was on a flight to a potential new home. Found a house, made an offer and started the buying process, and as soon as I got back home the borders shut again. Just bought a house and not knowing when the borders are going to reopen, I kept moving and looking forward and I continued to plan to achieve my goal of relocating.
In my teaching of S.M.A.R.T. Goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Based, I try to stress the fact that you set a date to achieve your goals and when you do not achieve that date it is not the end of the world, you need to stay fluid with your dates. Things happen, directions may shift for achieving your goals. Setting a time to achieve your goals is important, however sometimes the goal posts move, and we need to be flexible to move with it. It is important that your keep moving forward to achieve your goals, regardless of the obstacles in front of you.
February 2021 the borders reopened, I had the removalist staged and ready to go at a moment’s notice and I was off to my new house and way of life.
